Just logged my 100th hour on the bottom of Lake Michigan this season

I mean, I knew we were busy with the bridge inspection project, but seeing that number on my logbook yesterday kinda hit me. That's a lot of cold, dark water and it's only July. Anyone else ever get surprised by how fast the hours pile up on a big job?

What's next, you gonna start billing the fish for your time down there? I bet even the sturgeon are asking you to keep it down with all that clanking around. Seriously though, a hundred hours before August is a solid reminder that sometimes our bodies clock in way before our brains do.

Keep a running total on your phone. I did that on a big commercial paint job last spring. Just a simple note app. Every Friday, add that week's hours. Stops it from being a shock at the end. You see the creep in real time.

Yeah, that "surprised by how fast the hours pile up" feeling is real. On a long pipeline survey last year, I started keeping a weekly tally on a whiteboard in the trailer. Just seeing it there in big numbers made the time feel more real, less like a blur.
