PSA: Took me 6 hours to cut a simple access plate underwater because of one forgotten step
I swear, forgetting to check my lift bag inflation before a shallow water weld repair turned a 45 minute job into a full afternoon of fighting buoyancy, so which do you think is the bigger time waster, gear prep or actual cutting underwater?

So did you at least have a backup float or were you just hanging on for dear life down there? I once spent four hours wrestling a pipe underwater because I forgot to put the goddamn tape measure back on my belt and kept eyeballing a cut wrong, had to surface, swim to the boat, measure, swim back, repeat. Gear prep is the devil, but cutting with the wrong angle or twist is a close second, especially when your arms are screaming and you still gotta feather that weld.

Did you ever read that old Navy dive manual about how they taught guys to measure pipe with string instead of a tape underwater? Seems like your cold water wrestling match would've been simpler with a wet knot in some paracord.
