Shoutout to the guy who caught me kicking my fins off wrong for 2 years

I was on a job off the coast of Galveston last month, just finishing up a hull inspection on a tanker. This older diver, Mike, was waiting for me at the ladder and he just laughed and said 'you fight those fins every time.' I had no clue what he meant. He pulled me aside and showed me how I was arching my back too much and twisting my ankles instead of just using my hips. Took me like 3 tries to do it his way and suddenly my legs weren't burning after 20 minutes. I had been doing it wrong since my first cert and nobody ever said a word. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple tip from another diver saved you a ton of effort?

That's how most things in life go honestly. Everyone's too busy or scared to tell you you're doing it wrong, so you just keep grinding away with bad form until someone finally speaks up. Happened to me with lifting weights and even just carrying groceries.

Is it just me or does it feel like there's this unspoken rule in diving that nobody wants to be the one to correct someone? Like we're all so scared of looking like a know-it-all or hurting feelings that we just let people suffer through bad habits. Real talk, that's how I went three years rinsing my regs wrong before a dive buddy finally showed me the trick.
