Supervisor in Houma convinced me to stop chasing deeper jobs

I always took the deepest dives I could get, figured more depth meant more respect and better pay. Last month a supervisor I trust pulled me aside after a 180 foot job and said my bottom time was getting sloppy, I was rushing checks just to say I did it. He pointed out that a guy who bails on a 40 foot pipeline repair because it's 'beneath him' is the first one who gets hurt at 200 feet. That hit different because he's been offshore for 25 years and never once bragged about his max depth. Now I'm looking at a shallower salvage contract for next week, and honestly I'm not mad about it. Anyone else ever pass on big depth to stay sharp on the basics?
