Switched from steel-toed work boots to neoprene dive boots for deck work and my ankles stopped screaming at me after 3 shifts
Used to think I needed heavy boots for grip on wet surfaces until I slipped on a ladder to a 50-foot barge in Port Fourchon last spring and realized my rubber-soled dive boots actually have better traction on that slick aluminum, anyone else find your gear crosses over into weird places?

Wait, are you telling me those lightweight neoprene ones are actually better on ladders? That kinda blows my mind since I always figured the heavier the boot, the safer you are on deck. But yeah, I totally get the crossover thing. I used to wear my old hiking boots for everything, including changing out filters on rooftops, and my knees were shot until I switched to some cheap trail runners with sticky soles. Funny how the gear you think is "too soft" for work ends up being the thing that saves your back. Now I'm wondering if my cycling shoes would work on a boat deck, probably not, but I'm tempted to try.
