Warning: watch your low pressure hose when working the Mississippi River bridge pilings
Two weeks ago I was working a job on the old bridge pilings near Baton Rouge when my low pressure hose started acting up. The fitting looked fine on the surface but a tiny crack was letting air in just enough to make my bailout bottle read wrong during the pre-dive check. A guy named Reggie on the crew caught it, he said he always sprays soapy water on every fitting before a bridge job because vibration loosens things you would not expect. Now I do the soap test on every hose connection before I splash, takes 30 seconds. Has anyone else run into fittings that pass a visual but fail under vibration?
