Watched a diver in Tampa use a lift bag with way too much line on the bridle.
It was a simple 500-pound lift, but the extra 15 feet of line let the bag swing and almost hit the structure. I was taught to keep bridles short and tight to control the ascent. How much slack do you guys leave, and has a long bridle ever caused a problem for you?

Yeah, keep it short. I mean, just enough line to hook it and get a clean lift. That extra slack is asking for trouble, seen a bag get caught on a pipe once because of it.

Totally agree on the slack causing trouble. I started using a shorter line after a similar snag and it's way cleaner now.

...and that's exactly the kind of move that makes me look like I'm trying to launch a hot air balloon instead of a lift bag. I once left about 10 extra feet of line on a bridle because I thought "eh, better safe than sorry" and ended up chasing that thing around the water column like a confused dolphin. Learned my lesson real quick when it swung hard and smacked the side of the pier I was working on. Now I keep it so short I barely have room to clip the bag on without pinching my fingers, which is honestly my own fault for being clumsy.
