A 20 year vet told me to unplug the printer before touching the fuser, and he was dead right
Honestly, I used to skip that step all the time because I figured the fuser cooled down after a minute or two. Back in 2019 I was swapping a fuser on an HP LaserJet at a dental office in Tucson when my old shop lead stopped me and said, "kill the power and let it sit, that thing holds heat like a skillet." I rolled my eyes, pulled the plug anyway, and about 40 seconds later I grazed the roller with my forearm. It wasn't a burn that blistered right away, it was this deep ache that showed up an hour later and stuck around for almost two weeks. He just looked at me and handed me a cold bottle of water from the mini fridge and said nothing else. Now I unplug every single printer and wait a full 10 minutes, and I tell the new guys the exact same thing he told me. Has anyone else gotten a burn from a fuser because they thought they could beat the clock?
