Cleaned out 1,200 old hard drives from a school district's storage closet

The school district in Springfield asked me to clear out their old tech storage, and I found over 1,200 hard drives just sitting there, some from the early 2000s. It was a huge job to wipe them all properly and sort what could be recycled. Has anyone else had to deal with a massive, unexpected e-waste haul like this?

Tell me about it. I had a box of old SCSI drives from a 90s office clear-out. Each one weighed a ton, like a brick. Spent a whole weekend just trying to find an adapter that would work. The noise they made was unreal, a real grinding scream. Felt like I'd been in a wrestling match after moving them around.
