Debate: buying a $600 Fluke multimeter vs. a $40 amazon special

So I dropped $600 on a Fluke 87V last month after my old cheap meter gave me a weird reading on a 3 phase motor. Thing is, my coworker swears by his $40 amazon one and says he's never had issues. I feel like the Fluke is way more accurate and built tough, but that price tag stings. Anyone else go back and forth on this? Which side are you on?

Went through the exact same debate a few years back. Grabbed a $40 meter off amazon and it worked fine for basic stuff, but I started noticing drift on voltage readings after about six months. Picked up a used Fluke 77 on eBay for $180 and it's been rock solid ever since. The build quality difference is real, that thing has survived drops off ladders and being left in the rain by accident. For casual home use the cheap one is probably fine, but if you're relying on it for work or safety critical stuff, the peace of mind from the Fluke is worth the money (once you get over the sticker shock).

Totally same here, the Fluke build quality is just night and day after you drop one a few times.
