Debate: Is the overnight shift the best time for server maintenance or the absolute worst?

Last Tuesday I was solo on a night shift and had to patch 12 racks of servers with zero issues, smooth as butter... but the previous night I spent 4 hours fighting a failed PSU swap that turned a simple job into a nightmare. Does working nights actually give you more focus, or does it just set you up for burnout when something inevitably breaks and no one else is awake to help?

Nah man, night shifts are where it's at. Less chaos, no managers breathing down your neck, and you get to actually think through problems without a dozen people interrupting you.

Man's got a point about less chaos, but I've been on both sides and day shift just works better for me. Night shifts wreck my sleep schedule something fierce, takes me days to recover. Plus all that quiet time at night just makes me anxious, like waiting for something bad to happen. Day shift has its own kind of rhythm you learn to work with, interruptions and all. I'd rather blast through a bunch of smaller problems during the day than sit alone with one big one at 3am. To each their own though, some folks are built for the night life.
