Finally got an old Dell Optiplex to run smoothly after disabling Windows updates

I had this Optiplex 3020 sitting in my shop for months (it was so slow it was basically unusable). I disabled automatic updates and the thing runs like a completely different machine now - boot time went from 5 minutes down to about 45 seconds. Has anyone else found a quick registry tweak that made a huge difference on older hardware?

Holy cow, that's a five minute boot time? I would have tossed that thing out a window by the second week. That's insane how much of a difference just killing the updates makes, but honestly it makes sense. Windows gets so bloated with that stuff running in the background all the time. I messed around with a registry tweak once to stop the update service from even starting at boot and it shaved off like another 10 seconds from my startup. You might try that if you want to squeeze a bit more speed out of it.

Tbh I'd probably just chuck the whole PC out the window at that point and call it a day. Ngl registry tweaks are a lifesaver though, I did one that stopped Cortana from even existing on startup and it was like night and day.
