Had a client's server rack that was a total nightmare to trace cables in, but a $30 label maker from the office supply store saved the next day.
Spent 4 hours just trying to find where one patch cable went before I labeled everything. Anyone have a better system for documenting a messy rack setup?

Read about using colored zip ties on cable bundles for quick visual identification. Makes tracing a specific path way faster before you even check a label.

Colored zip ties sound smart. I once tried using different colored hair ties from my bathroom drawer because I was too lazy to go to the store. That was a bad plan. They all snapped within a week and left little fuzzies on the cables. My system now is just a lot of swearing and a very bright flashlight.
