I was at the new data center in Springfield and saw something that made me rethink cable runs

They had a whole server rack where every single cable was a different color, and it was actually easy to follow. The tech there said they color code by function, so red is power, blue is network, green is storage. I always thought that was just for looks, but watching him trace a fault in under a minute changed my mind. Has anyone else switched to a strict color system, and did it actually save you time on calls?

Honestly that color coding thing sounds great until you have to find the right shade of blue in a hurry lol. We tried something similar at my old job, but the guy who ordered the cables got like five different blues that all looked the same under the rack lights. Ended up with "network blue" and "phone system blue" and it was a total mess. Made me miss just labeling everything with tape, even if it was ugly. Sometimes the simple way is better, you know?

That Springfield setup sounds smart, what colors did they use for management or backup lines?
