Just got bit by a bad capacitor on a Dell Optiplex 9020

I swapped out a $6 capacitor from a local electronics shop and the board fried within 20 minutes has anyone else run into fake caps from online parts suppliers?

Pick up a cheap part from some random place and its a total gamble. Even name brand stuff from big stores feels like a coin flip now. Like batteries from the dollar store vs ones from a real shop - one works for months the other dies in a week. I swear companies are cutting corners on everything. That six dollar cap probably saved them two cents to make and now youre out a whole motherboard.

Used to think I was just unlucky with cheap parts but you laid it out perfect. That two cent savings really does come back to bite us in the end. Funny how we pay more in the long run just because they skimped on the little stuff.
