Pro tip: That $30 thermal paste was a total waste

Bought a fancy tube of thermal paste for $30 thinking it would drop my temps by 10 degrees. My CPU runs 2 degrees cooler than the $5 stuff from the drawer. Has anyone else found a real difference with the expensive stuff or is it all marketing?

Felt that pain myself when I dropped $35 on that fancy carbon based paste and saw maybe a 1 degree difference. The cheap stuff works just fine for most people and the expensive tubes are mostly just paying for a fancy label. What brand did you end up wasting your money on?

Buddy of mine spent like 40 bucks on some thermal paste that came with a little spatula and a stencil. Said his temps dropped maybe 2 degrees and the paste was a pain to clean off later. He went back to the white stuff from a computer shop the next time.
