PSA: A simple RAM swap gave me a black screen on a Dell Optiplex 3080

Had a client's machine with 8GB. Upgraded to 16GB using a matching Kingston stick. Booted to a black screen, no post beep. Tried reseating three times, same result. Put the old stick back in, booted fine. Learned that some Optiplex 3080 models have a weirdly specific RAM voltage requirement. The new stick was 1.2V, but the board needed 1.35V. Anyone else run into this with recent Dell business models? What's your go-to fix besides checking the spec sheet first?

Seriously? That's wild, I just throw in whatever RAM I have on hand and it usually works.

Honestly that's playing with fire. Mixing different RAM kits can cause random crashes or just not run at full speed. Tbh I'd only do that as a last resort.

Oh man, that voltage thing is a killer. I read a forum post a while back where someone had the exact same problem with an Optiplex. Their fix was to get the exact part number from Dell's service manual, not just match the size and brand. Those business machines can be so picky. It's not just speed, it's the whole spec down to the tiny details. Now I keep a list of known-good part numbers for common models like that. Saves a ton of headache.
