Rant: Had to choose between a cheap SSD and a team building event last Friday
My work laptop died during a zoom call with a client in Detroit. Boss said I could either get a $60 SSD from Micro Center to fix it myself, or go to the mandatory team building event that afternoon. I picked the SSD because I figured a working computer is more important than trust falls. Well, the drive came with zero screws and the SATA cable was a different connector than my old one. So I spent 3 hours running to Best Buy for parts and still missed the event. Now my boss is mad I skipped the group stuff, but my laptop works. Has anyone else had a manager who thinks fixing gear is optional?

Picked up a "new" SSD from a guy in a van once, turns out it was just a flash drive taped to a brick.

Man that is some next level hustle. I bought a used graphics card from a guy at a flea market once and it was just a cheap card with the heat sink glued on. Plugged it in and the thing started smoking after ten minutes. At least your brick had some weight to it for the price. People really be out here making fake drives out of anything these days.
