Showerthought: A client's NAS died right after a backup job. Bad luck or a real pattern?

Their Synology unit just clicked and died. Full backup finished 12 hours before. Some techs say backups stress drives and can trigger failure. Others say it's just random timing. What's your take on this?

Nah, that's just random bad luck. Drives fail when they want to. If backups killed them, we'd all be replacing drives every week.

Ever had a drive die right after you finally got around to backing it up? I swear my old hard drive waited until it heard the backup software start clicking. Maybe they just get tired and quit.

Backup jobs do put drives under load. Heat and vibration go up. But calling it a pattern seems like a stretch. Most drives handle it fine for years. Just really bad timing in this case.
