Spent $400 on a UPS, it kept my server alive but not my sanity

I bought a refurbished 1500VA UPS for my home lab after two brownouts killed a NAS last spring. The unit worked fine, but the alarm beeped every time the power flickered, and that happened 14 times in one month. Anyone else ever just rip the buzzer wire out and deal with the risk to sleep at night?

Does that thing have a software setting to mute the alarm? Some of the nicer units let you turn it off or lower the volume, so you might not need to void the warranty with wire cutters just yet. If not, honestly, I get it. A friend of mine put a piece of electrical tape over his buzzer and never looked back after his third 3 AM wake up call. The beeping is way worse than the tiny risk of missing a dying battery, especially when it's going off every other day for no real reason. Just make sure you check the LEDs once in a while so you're not totally blind to a serious fault.
