Newbies are boosting phone mics too close to the PA speakers

I traded a guy a 2019 King Gizzard Seattle tape and his recording was all blown out because he had his phone clipped to the barrier right under the horn. I've been taping shows since 2011 in Portland and I learned the sweet spot is usually 20 to 30 feet back, off to the side, unless the room is tiny. Back in the day we used to hide actual recorders in jacket pockets, and even those picked up less rumble than someone holding a Pixel next to a subwoofer. Anyone else notice more folks ruining otherwise good nights by chasing the loudest spot instead of the clearest?
