Scored 3 whole shows in one week at The Basement in Nashville and my phone didn't die once
So last week was nuts. I hit up The Basement three times in five days, Tuesday for a local punk opener, Thursday for some indie band from Knoxville, and Saturday for a sold out show that I barely got into. I record everything on my Pixel 6a with just the stock voice recorder app and a $20 lav mic clipped to my collar, nothing fancy. Tuesday was rough because some dude next to me kept yelling requests, but Thursday came out clean as hell, you can hear the bass amp hum between songs. Saturday I got shoved to the back near the sound booth and honestly that turned out better, way less crowd noise and the mix was solid. I ended up with about 4 hours of raw audio total and spent Sunday cutting it down in Audacity. Got all three sets uploaded to my Google Drive and traded two of them with a guy from the forum for his recordings of the same bands from the night before. Anyone else notice that standing by the sound guy gets you a way cleaner tape or is that just me?
Wait, did you check the ceiling height at The Basement before you picked your spot? I've noticed low ceilings bounce sound down harder, so standing near the booth might be less about the crowd and more about where the room's reflections land. Your Saturday tape being cleaner could be the ceiling doing you a favor, not the distance.
