Got told my broom finish was too rough for a patio, now I use a different method
I was finishing a patio in Eugene last fall and the homeowner said it felt like sandpaper underfoot. I always used a standard push broom and thought that was just how a broom finish was. He was really polite but firm about it. So I switched to a finer horsehair broom and started pulling it instead of pushing, with a lighter touch. The texture is way smoother now, almost like a light stucco. Has anyone else had to adjust their broom technique after getting feedback?

Oh yeah, I read a forum post once where a guy called it "dragging" the broom. He said pulling it gives you way more control over the pressure and keeps the texture even. Your switch to horsehair makes total sense for that. Sounds like you nailed the fix.

Wow, I always pushed the broom too, but pulling it is a total game changer.

Ha, yeah I used to think pushing was the only way to go too. But once I tried pulling it all made sense, way easier to control.
