Had a slab blow up on me at a parking lot job in Phoenix last August

Was pouring a 12x12 slab for a retail lot and got a phone call right when I was finishing the final trowel. By the time I got back 10 minutes later the surface was already crusted over and I tried to work it anyway. Big mistake. That patch looked like the surface of the moon with all those cracks. Now I don't answer my phone past the bull float stage, period. Has anyone else had a job go bad from stepping away too long?

Surface of the moon" is honestly a generous description for what I did to a driveway in Tucson last June. I got distracted by a text about dinner plans and came back to concrete that had set up like stale cake frosting, tried to smooth it anyway. I mean, I've seen some bad finishes in my time but that one had me considering a career change to something easier like professional bull riding.

Man, that fresh slab crusting over is the worst. Feel your pain.
