I finally got a smooth finish on that crazy sloped driveway in Phoenix

The slope was so steep the concrete kept sliding down, and I had to keep reworking it with my magnesium float for almost four hours before it set right. We ended up using a rapid set mix and a spray-on retarder just to buy enough time. What's the longest you've ever fought with a pour that just wouldn't behave?

We had a 40 yard basement slab pour in Flagstaff where the mix design was just wrong. The slump was way too high and it kept bleeding out, we were floating water off the top for what felt like forever. Ended up having to bring in bags of cement to dust it and rework the whole surface. That was a solid six hour fight before it finally started to set up right.

Sounds like a brutal day.

Man, that's rough. I used to think a high slump was just easier to work with, you know? But seeing a pour bleed out like that once changed my whole view. Now a mix that's too wet just makes me nervous, it's never worth the fight later. You guys saving that slab must have been exhausting.
