Old timer on a job in Boise told me to wet the subgrade before pouring and I thought he was crazy
He just said 'son, dry ground sucks the moisture right out your mix and you'll be fighting cracks all week' and I brushed him off until I had to demo a section three days later that looked like a spiderweb, has anyone else had a random old school tip that ended up being completely right?

Honestly used to think old concrete guys were just set in their ways but that moisture thing is real. Tbh I've seen too many slabs turn into a mess because the ground pulled all the water out before it could cure right. Ngl that little tip saved me way more headaches than I would've guessed.

Yeah I was the same way honestly. Figured it was just old timer superstition until I had to bust up a slab that crumbled because the dirt sucked the moisture right out of it. That's when it clicked for me too.
