The day my screed rail slipped and I dumped half a yard on the driveway in Fontana
Had a pour go sideways on me last Thursday in Fontana when the screw stake holding my screed rail pulled loose about 10 feet into a 40 foot driveway. I was running the straightedge myself while the chute guy kept pouring, so by the time I felt the rail give, there was already a low spot the size of a trash can lid forming. I had the chute guy stop, pulled the stake, and shoved in a bigger one at a 45 so it bit into the subgrade instead of the loose edge. Lost maybe 10 minutes and had to work a bit of extra mud into the low spot before it set up, but it finished fine. Next time I'm double staking anything past 30 feet, or running a stake every 8 feet instead of 10. Anybody got a stake trick that holds better in sandy fill, or do you just add more mud and hope?
