Used to rush the float stage, but a chat with an old timer changed my game.
I always sped through floating to get to finishing faster. Then I talked to this retiree at the diner who used to run his own crew. He said taking your time there prevents future cracks and gives a smoother surface. Now I slow down and the results are way better.

Been there, rushed it once and paid for it later.

Ugh, tell me about it. I rushed the curing time on a garage slab to hit a deadline. The whole surface ended up dusty and weak, like chalk. Had to grind it all down and seal it, which cost way more time than just waiting would have. Never again.

Made that mistake too, rushed a basement job and had hairline cracks everywhere within a year. Totally get what you and elizabethg53 mean about paying for it later. Slowing down on the float saves so much headache.
