Just dropped $350 on a deposition transcription service that paid for itself in 3 days

I had a case in Cleveland last month where the opposing counsel kept dodging my questions on valuation methods so I figured spending the money on a realtime stenographer would catch them off guard. Three days later I had 47 pages of objections and sidebars that directly contradicted their summary judgment motion. Has anyone else found a specific vendor that saves them more than the cost?

Oh, I see this a bit differently. Spending that much on a stenographer is a lot unless you're absolutely sure the other side is going to slip up. Unless you have a history with that specific opposing counsel, you could've just as easily gotten 47 pages of them sticking to their story and been out $350 for nothing. I'd rather put that money toward a good expert witness who can explain the valuation methods in plain English.

Are we sure this is worth losing sleep over? I mean, yeah, a bad deposition can sting, but most of these cases settle anyway, right? It's not like one slip-up is gonna flip the whole table unless they straight up confess to fraud. In my experience, judges and juries care more about the big picture than some gotcha moment from a deposition. Your mileage may vary, but I'd save the $350 for coffee and a therapist, not a stenographer. Unless you're trying to write a tell-all book about it, it's probably not that serious.
