Just realized my cost cap memo was basically a discovery request
Last month I wrote a cost control memo for our outside counsel, asking for every invoice line item over $50. Our GC laughed and said I basically drafted a discovery request, which hit me hard. Three years ago I sat through a billing dispute that dragged on for 8 months because nobody defined what 'reasonable fees' meant until we were already in front of a judge. I spent an hour today reworking the memo to be crystal clear on scope, format, and deadlines. Has anyone else had to walk back their own blunt document because it sounded like a litigation tool instead of a management one?

Yeah, that's the trick... learning to write for the audience, not the judge.
