Old boss's 'just settle' advice saved me a $40k mistake

My former litigation partner in Chicago always said settle before discovery if the other side smells eager. Last quarter, I pushed a breach case to deposition and got crushed on a technicality that cost the client $40k in fees. Has anyone else found that early settlement instinct beats courtroom bravado?
