That time I trusted a handshake over a contract in a deal with my cousin

Back in 2019, I made a verbal agreement with my cousin to split profits on a small real estate flip in Philadelphia. No paperwork, just a handshake and a promise. Six months later, he claimed I owed him extra costs and threatened a lawsuit. Now I won't even buy a used car without a written agreement signed by both parties. Has anyone else had family turn on them like this over business money?

Wait, your own cousin threatened to sue you? That's insane.
