Had a perm go totally wrong on a Thursday afternoon

I was working on this client in my chair in Austin and their hair started smelling like burnt popcorn halfway through the processing. I panicked for a second but grabbed my chelating spray and did a quick rinse with cool water instead of hot. The curl came out softer than I wanted but it saved the hair from turning into straw. Anyone else ever had to scramble like that mid-service?

Actually I gotta push back on the chelating spray being the right call there, you probably should have just stopped the processing immediately and done a neutral rinse instead of messing with extra products. Adding more chemicals to hair that's already reacting badly just risks making the damage worse in the long run, even if the curls looked softer right then. A softer curl that costs you half your hair later isn't a win, its just a delay on the problem.

Wait you actually used chelating spray mid-perm? @mia_lee I thought that stuff was just for mineral buildup but wow that's brave. Did the client freak out when they smelled the burning?
