Just flipped on balayage after 5 years of hating it

Had a client last month in Austin bring in a photo of chunky, almost 90s style lightening and I almost turned her away, but she pushed me to try it with a foil technique I'd never used. Watching the color melt down her hair in real time instead of doing my usual painted swoops completely changed my mind about the whole style. Has anyone else had a technique they swore off that a brave client made you revisit?
