Pro tip: I had to pick between a classic bob or a textured shag for a client with fine hair
She came in wanting a big change but was scared her hair would look flat. I went with the shag, using a lot of point cutting and thinning shears to build volume. After I finished, she said it was the first cut that gave her hair real body without a ton of product. Has anyone else found shags work better than bobs for fine hair types?

Always choose the shag for fine hair.

ok so I'll ADMIT I used to be a big hater of the shag for fine hair. I always thought more layers = more flatness because of what my old stylist told me. But then I tried a shag with lots of choppy pieces and it actually gave my hair SO much more volume than a blunt cut ever did. The key for fine hair is keeping the layers really textured and not too long, like they should hit at your cheekbones. I had a friend with super thin hair try a shag too and she went from a lifeless bob to actual movement. so yeah, I was wrong, zara_hunt totally changed my mind on this one.

My stylist said layers can make fine hair look flat.
