Shoutout to the client who brought in a picture of a haircut from 1998
The photo was so faded I could barely see the layers, and my shears felt dull halfway through the cut. Has anyone else had a client request from a really old, blurry reference?

Oh, I feel your pain. Once had a client bring in a tiny, wrinkled magazine clipping from the late 80s. The photo was more of a orange tint than an actual picture, and the hairstyle was mostly hidden by giant shoulder pads. You just have to make your best guess and hope for the best.

Ever wonder if those old photos look so weird because the hairstyles were actually bad? I had a family picture from the 90s where everyone's hair just looks like a shiny helmet. Maybe the bad quality is doing us a favor sometimes.

Hang on, are you really saying the bad quality is a good thing? lol. I gotta disagree there. Those 80s and 90s photos might have crazy shoulder pads and shiny helmet hair, but at least you could see what was actually going on. Now we got these digital pics that look all soft and weird, like a person got smudged. I'd take a crunchy orange-tinted photo with big hair over some blurry AI mess any day. At least the old ones had character, you know?
