That client who told me my blending was 'too soft' really made me rethink how I approach shadow roots

She said she wanted more visible contrast and it stung at first but after trying a heavier hand on a few friends I realized I was playing it way too safe - anyone else get feedback that forced them to totally tweak their technique?

12 clients have told me the opposite - they want softer blends, not harsh lines.

Ha! Same thing happened to me with balayage. A client straight up told me my highlights looked like "nothing happened" and I was pissed at first. But she was right - I was so scared of being too aggressive that my work was basically invisible. Once I started leaving more space between sections and pulling pieces higher up, the contrast actually made the soft parts look way better. Sometimes you need a blunt client to shake you out of your comfort zone.
