That one client who made me stop over-processing perms

I had a client last month, a lady named Rosa from the neighborhood, who came in with hair so fried it looked like straw. She told me her last stylist left the perm solution on for 25 minutes, and I could see the breakage right at the crown. I did a deep protein treatment first, then used a gentle acid perm and checked every 5 minutes. It came out soft and bouncy, and she cried happy tears - has anyone else had to undo someone else's damage like that?

How long did the deep protein treatment sit for before you started the perm? I've heard mixed things about timing with fried hair, and I'm trying to dial in my own routine for cases like that. Rosa's lucky she found someone who actually checked every 5 minutes instead of just walking away.

5 mins? I would've been too scared to even breathe near her hair.
