The blush trick that saved my bridal makeup gig last Saturday

I had a bride who cried during the first look and her blush totally wiped off in streaks. I tried layering a cream blush under powder and it stayed put through 4 hours of photos and tears. Has anyone else tried combining cream and powder layers for long wear situations?

Actually, cream under powder isn't the only way to go here. A lot of people think that's the holy grail for crying brides, but you can also do powder under cream for a different kind of hold. I've found that if you set the skin with a thin layer of translucent powder first, then apply cream blush and blend it in, it almost melts into the skin and won't budge. The key is using a damp sponge to pat the cream in instead of swiping it around. That method held up through my sister's entire outdoor wedding in July with nonstop humidity and a few happy tears. So if the cream under powder ever fails you, try flipping the order and see if it works better for your client's skin type.

The cream under powder trick is a lifesaver. I did the same thing for a friend's wedding when the bride was a wreck through the whole ceremony. It held up way better than just powder alone.
