Thought I was doing scalp massages right for 6 years, a client in Duluth set me straight
I do a 10 minute scalp massage with every color service and always pressed down firm, thinking deeper meant better. Last month a client who is a physical therapist asked me to ease up and told me "you're pushing the blood away, not toward the scalp." I switched to slow light circles with my fingertips flat for 3 sessions and she brought me cookies because her headaches stopped. Found out from her that you can literally watch the scalp go pink when you get the pressure right. Any of you ever get corrected by a client who actually knew more about anatomy than you did?
