Vent: How perm rods have changed since I started in the 90s

I was cleaning out my kit last week and found some old purple perm rods from 1995 next to the new ones I bought at Sally's. Back then the rods had this rough texture that gripped hair like CRAZY, now they're all smooth plastic that makes my wraps slip. Does anyone else miss the old school rods or am I just being nostalgic about sore fingers?

Those rough rods were actually vinyl coated wire, not plastic, they just looked like plastic.

Three of those old rods from my mom's 80s set are still in my bag because the new ones just don't have the same grip. It's like how everything from vacuum cleaners to phone chargers gets made with cheaper materials now just to save a buck.
