Comparing a Liebherr to a Manitowoc on the same job last month was eye opening

The Liebherr had way smoother load control in the wind, but the Manitowoc's setup time was half as long and that saved us a full day on the schedule for a hospital build in Denver - has anyone else noticed a big difference between makes for tight urban sites?

Toss the smooth load control argument out the window for tight sites. That kind of precision only matters if you have the room to even swing the boom without hitting the next building over. In urban Denver, you're better off with the Manitowoc's quicker setup because every hour of crane time is a nightmare with street closures and traffic. The Liebherr might feel nicer in wind, but wind is the least of your problems when you're squeezing between a parking garage and a hospital wall. Faster rigging and tear down means you get out of the road sooner, and that's worth way more than a slightly smoother lift. You really think paying for extra days of rental and traffic control is worth a tiny bit of extra smoothness?

@ivan82 you're basically describing what i see at every job site i walk past in denver these days. it's not just cranes either. i watched a plumbing crew spend two hours just trying to position a backhoe between a light pole and a dumpster last week. the whole "faster setup saves you more than a smoother lift" thing reminds me of how everyone i know buys the nicer truck with all the cushy options but then realizes they can't park it anywhere downtown. you end up paying for that comfort with wasted time and extra frustration, whether it's a crane or a pickup.
