Debate: Should you feather the boom or just drop it steady in a high wind? Here's my story.

I was on a job in Cleveland last month with gusts up to 35mph, and my load started swinging bad when I tried to feather it smooth, so I had to just set it down fast before it took out a wall. The foreman yelled at me for being too rough, but my spotter said I saved the job - what do you guys do when the wind kicks up like that?

Feathering in 35mph is like trying to gently place a wild animal down. I tried the smooth drop once with a bundle of lumber near Lake Erie and ended up doing a little dance with the controls while the load tried to fly away. Foreman said I looked like I was conducting an orchestra of chaos. At least your spotter had your back, mine just took a video.

Keep the load as snug to the ground as possible in wind like that, less air gets under it. @wright.drew your foreman sounds like a real comedian, at least you gave em a show.
