My hook block sheave locked up mid lift last Wednesday

Was moving some steel beams on a site in Newark around 2pm and heard this nasty grinding noise from the block. Looked up and saw the sheave wasn't spinning at all, just dragging the cable sideways. I lowered the load real slow and set it down on a flatbed, then shut the crane down for the day. Turned out the bearing had seized up from lack of grease, which I shoulda caught during morning inspection. Anyone else had a sheave fail on them and how did you handle getting it swapped out fast?

Guess that's one way to learn your morning inspection list the hard way!

Wait, is the inspection list actually for the morning or did they just not check it the night before like we're supposed to? I've seen @karenm49 mention that before, but it really matters which one it is. Most routes I've done go smoother when you give yourself that extra minute to look things over early.
