Old timer at the yard changed my mind about hand signals

I always thought hand signals were for old guys who couldn't handle radios. Then a 30 year operator named Dale in Tulsa told me, 'Radios fail, arms don't.' Last month my radio died mid-lift on a 12 ton beam, and Dale was spotting me from the ground. His hand signals got that load settled safe with zero drama. Now I practice them every Friday just in case. Anyone else ever had to fall back on hand signals when tech went down?
