Old timer told me to stop cranking the load line so tight before the lift
He said I was putting extra stress on the boom for zero gain and after I loosened up my rigging I noticed the whole lift felt smoother and my hook spins less on the empty return, has anyone else gotten advice from a senior operator that changed their basic habits?

Hear you loud and clear on that one. How many times have you watched a guy yank the load line so tight it hums, then wonder why the boom's bouncing like a jackhammer on the deadhead? That extra tension doesn't help the lift at all, it just wears out your sheave bearings and puts a false sense of security in the rigging.

That "false sense of security" part really hit home. I stopped yanking mine tight and my gear lasts way longer now.
