Pro tip: Hitting 500 hours on a tower crane didn't make me feel like an expert
Everyone talks about that number like it's a magic threshold, but I still had to ask my signalman to repeat himself twice last week in a stiff crosswind. Has anyone else found that the 'milestone' hours feel a bit arbitrary?

The real test is the first time you have to land a load blind because a building corner blocks your view. Hours logged don't prepare you for that stomach drop moment, only doing it does.

Half the time when guys talk about "stomach drop moments" they're just trying to sound tough. You climbed the thing, you run the thing, sometimes you guess a little. That blind load thing happens every other Tuesday, you just swing slow and trust your guy. The hours matter but the drama doesn't.
