PSA: The new safety checklists at the Port of Tacoma are adding a full hour to our pre-shift routine

Last week, my foreman handed me a 12-page binder instead of the usual single sheet. Three years ago, our morning check took maybe 20 minutes. Now, with all the new camera angle verifications and secondary load chart confirmations, we're pushing past 80 minutes before we even start the engine. It feels like they're trying to cover every possible 'what if' on paper. Has anyone else's site seen their pre-op paperwork balloon like this?

We had the same issue with our crane inspections last year. Our crew started doing a quick walkthrough first and then filling out the forms, which cut the time in half. How does your team handle the new checklist order?

Actually used to think the walkthrough first method was a waste of time, but seeing how much faster @nathan851's crew got done changed my mind. We switched to doing a full visual check, then one person calls out items while another checks the boxes. Cuts out all the back and forth to the machine.

Our yard went from a two page checklist to a small novel last fall. I'm pretty sure I spend more time checking the box for 'gloves present' than I do actually putting them on.
