Rant: The temporary crane pad at the new Riverside site looked like it was set on a sponge.

I was out there yesterday and the whole thing shifted nearly two inches under a static load, which is a problem nobody wants to find after the rig is up.

Yeah, but that much shift under static load means the ground prep was off... could be a real problem if the load changes or it rains.

Two inches on a sponge pad? That's what they're for, to spread the load on soft ground. Seen way worse settle without issue. As long as the crane level is good, it's probably fine.

... and I get what @reese_bell is saying about the ground prep, but the real issue is what happens when you get a sudden rain event and that pad starts to hydroplane under the load. Nobody's talking about the drainage factor at that site... I've seen a good setup turn into a mess when water gets under the mat.
