Wasted $350 on a cheap load cell for my crane scale
I bought a budget load cell off Amazon 2 months ago thinking it would save me money on a new crane scale for my mobile crane. It failed after just 3 lifts with a 12-ton load, and the readout jumped around so bad I couldn't trust it anyway. Has anyone else had luck with those cheap alternatives or should I just stick with a brand name unit from a dealer?

That "readout jumped around" part got me. I tried one of those digital crane scales from a big box store last year for weighing out junk cars at the scrap yard. Worked fine for a week, then started showing random numbers even with nothing on the hook. Turned out the wiring inside was basically just glued together and a little moisture from morning dew killed it. Your mileage may vary, but I learned the hard way that anything with a load cell needs to be built tougher than what you get for cheap online.
